My dad had an old beat-up mouth organ, which was double tuned, in micro-tones to give a shimmering vibrato effect. I loved to just explore the overtones, and recompose them to make complex chords.

A soundscape. While i was standing with my edirol r-09 in hand, an airliner jet took off from narita international airport by the road. Several cars and trucks passed by. Birds were singing against jet noise.

Cicadas recorded from my balcony in a melbourne suburb at night. Cyclochila australasiae, the sound they make is around 4. 3khz. Recording was done with a roland r-26 using built in omni mics, and noise was removed with izotope plugins.

At the end of a country driveway, on a dirt road, i recorded this with my stereo handheld recorder. The car approaches from the left and passes by to the right. You can hear the transition in the stereo field.

This is the sound of my 2-year old son jumping up and down in his crib, which kind of resembles the sound of. . . A baby being made if you know what i mean. I placed a roland r-05 digital recorder under the crib while he bounced.

An express train of kintetsu railway passes by at rather high speed. Connecting my at835st to a newly purchased edirol r-44. I actually bought it for need of recording four channels of drums sound, but i was completely astonished by its great ability as a field recorder. Wonderful mic preamps, aren't they?.

This is the sound of a storm drain emptying into a gutter. My street floods in heavy rain, giving the storm drain a river-like sound. I placed my roland r-05 on the sidewalk just above the drain. It babbles and splashes like a river, but it is on a residential city street. I recorded it at 2am, so there are few vehicles in the recording though several faintly pass by in the background. I got on a cable car to the top of mt. Hakodate. My edirol r-09 happened to catch the sigh of a young woman next to me saying 'kirei' over the outspread night view of the town. It means 'how beautiful,' 'c'est magnifique,' or something like that. Recorded on 17 feb, 2008 with built-in mics.

Metal thumpy toilet paper holder. I got a last minute laptop gig and had no samples with me- i needed some percussive sounds to tweak in ableton live. I headed to a public bathroom with my edirol r-09 and recorded lots of hits in the bathroom. This one was an -sounding metal toilet paper holder.

A musical bottle holder offered by my best friends. Each time you lift the bottle that is placed on it, the music box chime plays if winded up. The played melody is a french song called "boire un petit coup c'est agréable". Recorded with a trust gxt258 fyru microphone connected to a macbook r.

Monastiraki square, athens, greece. A group of 6 young guys from africa start a street drumming-and-dancing show, when they are approached by a group of romani girls (in a flirting mood, in my view). Idea for a base for a radio bumper. I found another track in which someone had said, "du bist der hörer. Wir sind das radio. " so i recorded myself repeating these sentences, which translate from german into english as, "you are the listener. We are the radio. " i also overlaid it over a track of generated sine waves, one in each channel (l-r), chosen to be discordant (like a radioactive effect). Sine waves are 10. 5 seconds, i left 4. 5 seconds at the end to overlay your content (maybe an ident or whatever). Have fun!. Recorded during riding by attaching a zoom h4n at my left leg. The xy-microphone pointed vertically direction to the seat/engine, so no spectacular stereo-sound, but different sound timbre on l/r. The exhaust had a rusted hole so it's not the original vespa-sound but more rough. Different styles of driving. Including starter and switching off. No sound editing was made, so maybe you like to filter away low frequencies (some little wind was behind the shield).
